Live collaboration in drawDB Pro
Collaborate on Team Pro cloud diagrams with presence, live cursors, relationship previews, automatic connection, and access controls.
Live collaboration lets eligible Team Pro members edit the same cloud diagram together. It starts automatically when the diagram opens—there is no separate collaboration toggle.
Requirements
Every collaborator needs:
- Membership in the diagram's team workspace.
- Can edit access to the diagram.
- A Team Pro workspace with live collaboration enabled.
- A cloud-backed diagram rather than a local diagram or template.
Pro Solo, view-only members, and public-link visitors do not join the live editing room.
What collaborators see
- Presence avatars for other connected users.
- Remote cursors moving on the canvas.
- Relationship lines while another person is connecting fields.
- Schema changes as peers create, update, or delete supported diagram elements.
Each browser continues saving the shared diagram to the cloud. The live service relays operations and presence; it does not replace cloud persistence.
Connection status
The dot on your avatar shows the live-session state:
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Live collaboration is connected. |
| Amber | drawDB is connecting or waiting for the diagram's first cloud save. |
| Red | Collaboration is unavailable because of access, plan, network, or service configuration. |
Hover over the dot for a more specific message.
Start a session
- Open a saved diagram in a Team workspace.
- Confirm your permission is Can edit.
- Wait for the avatar dot to turn green.
- Share the normal diagram URL with another team member who has edit access.
A newly created diagram may stay amber until its first cloud write creates the shared record.
How persistence works
Connected peers exchange operations immediately. A peer also provides the current scene to someone joining an active room. Each editor then saves the resulting document through the normal cloud-save path.
When two people change the same element at nearly the same time, the last persisted write can determine the stored result. Coordinate destructive or large schema changes and record a manual version first.
Troubleshoot the status dot
- Included in your current plan: Team Pro is required; refresh the account after a plan change.
- You do not have edit access: ask the creator or a team Admin for Can edit.
- Diagram is not in cloud storage: move or save the diagram and wait for the first write.
- Cannot reach the collaboration service: check the network, reload once, and retry.
- Server unavailable or not configured: normal cloud editing may still work, but live presence will not. Try again later or contact support.
If the dot remains amber after the diagram shows a completed cloud save, reload the diagram before escalating the issue.
