Cloud diagrams and workspaces

Understand local and cloud drawDB diagrams, cloud autosave, workspace scoping, opening files, moving diagrams, and read-only access.

drawDB can show browser-local and cloud-backed diagrams in the same editor. Knowing which copy is open prevents sharing and access surprises.

Use File → Open to browse both sources. The list identifies Local and Cloud items and provides search, sorting, database, source, and ownership filters.

Move a local diagram to the cloud

Open the local diagram and select Move in the cloud prompt. drawDB uploads it to the active workspace before switching the editor to the cloud copy.

Wait for the completed save state before closing the tab. If the write fails, the local diagram remains the recovery source.

Cloud changes are saved in sequence. When edits happen quickly, drawDB combines pending work rather than sending overlapping writes. The Last saved value is updated only after the cloud write completes.

If a write is still pending when you try to leave, the browser may warn you. Remain on the page until the save completes when possible.

Export important diagrams too

Cloud storage protects against browser-data loss, but an exported JSON or DDB copy is still useful before large changes, access changes, or account transitions.

Workspace scoping

The active workspace controls:

Which cloud diagrams appear in the normal list.
Where new cloud diagrams are created.
Which workspace's most recent diagram opens after switching.
Which team membership and sharing rules apply.

A diagram belongs to its workspace, not permanently to its original creator. If the creator later leaves that team, access follows the remaining team membership and permissions.

Open a cloud diagram

Opening /editor while signed in returns to the most recently modified accessible cloud diagram.
File → Open lets you select another diagram and inspect its source and owner.
Switching workspaces opens that workspace's most recent diagram or a blank canvas if the workspace is empty.
Opening a direct diagram URL also synchronizes the active workspace when you still belong to it.

Read-only cloud access

A diagram opens read-only when your permission is Can view or your plan no longer permits cloud writes.

In read-only mode, you can inspect the diagram, but write-dependent actions such as saving changes, changing sharing settings, using AI, creating API keys, or joining a live editing room are unavailable.

If a trial or subscription ends, existing cloud data is retained. Restoring an eligible plan makes writable features available again.

Delete a cloud diagram

The diagram creator and team admins can manage and delete a cloud diagram while they remain members of its workspace. Deletion removes the diagram for everyone with access, so export a backup first when the schema may be needed later.
